With My Chet My Song, Riccardo Del Fra has created a sonic universe where standards take on a new depth and velvety texture thanks to an orchestration that intertwine voices—jazz and classical—in a silky, fluid, and luminous shimmer. It’s a tribute, but far from a mother exercise in style, which he defines as follows:
“With this project, I wanted to take a fresh look at this extraordinary experience in my life, but without nostalgia, to rediscover a sublime and, ultimately, new kind of music, far removed from mere exercises in style and sterile remakes. Inspired by the idea of metamorphosis, I wrote new music and arranged old pieces to transfigure this universe within a naturally and organically modern framework, notably through re-harmonizations, variations, and shifts in perspective. This modernity is also made possible by the expertise of the talented musicians who surround me.” These artists from different generations are well-versed in tradition, yet sensitive and open to the world today and to music from all corners of the globe. I have always been curious about other musical worlds and a proponent of breaking down barriers, and I am delighted to see that this curiosity comes naturally to them and that together we can play music where poetry, imagination, and energy coexist and serve a fresh and uninhibited expression.
