“Moving People” – The shifting geography of peoples, humanity – in its vulnerability as much as in its phenomenal life force – the Other who moves us, empathy, are at the heart of the “Moving People” project.

Moving People originated from a project born in Berlin, Hoffnung, initiated by the Genshagen Foundation, which works to promote artistic and cultural dialogue in Europe, based on the idea of a musical creation that could evoke and symbolize hope.

“Hope through action and resistance, for a mutual understanding of peoples, towards solidarity and empathy, compassion and a vision for the future.” “Hoffnung – Espoir – Nadzieja” was created at Genshagen in November 2016 with Polish (Tomasz Dabroski, Kuba Gudz), German (Jan Prax), and French (Carl-Henri Morisset) musicians. It was the genesis of Moving People, which naturally led to the album.

Striking and penetrating compositions, all by Riccardo, performed by deeply inspired and boundary-pushing improvisers. Several generations and countries are represented: the Americans Kurt Rosenwinkel, an exceptional guitarist with a wonderfully inspired style, and Jason Brown, a drummer with a powerful groove and contagious energy; the fiery German saxophonist Jan Prax; the expressive and free-spirited trumpeter Tomasz Dabrowski; and the Frenchmen Rémi Fox, a subtle and poetic saxophonist, and Carl-Henri Morisset, a pianist of rare mastery and inventiveness.

They are all brought together here for “Moving People,” a lyrical and profound album, powerful yet delicate, with demanding compositions that leave ample room for improvisation. It tells of journeys toward a better life, of hopes, and of the life force that is always inherent in humanity. Riccardo Del Fra’s music embraces, caresses, and moves. His double bass sings with lyricism, envelops with sensuality, and brings the soloists to a fever pitch.
